A student is considered to have passed a course if the final grade is at least 60%.

If the final grade is between 55% and 59% the Final Assessment Board may condone this grade based on the overall academic performance of the student.

The Final Assessment Board (FAB) decides whether a student who has failed a course should repeat coursework or final exam or both during the following semester together with other students taking this same course.

Students who pass either coursework or final exam in one course they would normally not be asked to undertake that component again. Exceptions may be valid in the case of Laboratory courses. In the event that a student fails from absences in a particular course and is not allowed to take the final exam, if the student has passed the coursework, then the student will only be asked to repeat the Final Exam. If the course is not offered, the student must repeat it when it is next offered, with the exception of graduating students where special arrangements can be made.

Students must attempt to pass the coursework and/or the final exams every semester within the normal duration of their course. Any time that the student does not attempt to do either the coursework or the final exam, a grade of "F" will be allocated, unless the student obtains  beforehand the written consent of the Academic Committee.

Students may proceed from one semester to the provided that they have:

(a) Passed all subjects for the semester OR.;

(b) Failed a maximum of two subjects

If they fail more than two subjects during the semester- they are registered in, they will have to repeat all the subjects of the particular semester.

The FAB may allow a student to proceed to the following semester with a maximum of three subject failures, provided that these failures are from different semesters.

In the event that a student fails more than three subjects from different semesters the student will be asked to spend one semester clearing his/her pending issues with regular attendance in all subjects. The FAB may ask a student to withdraw from a program of study if the student fails a particular semester more than two times.
